A beautiful oval plate from a series of “Hamorebi”, meaning sunlight leaking through the leaves, hand-painted by female artisan named Chie Sakurai. The bright design will add a splash of color to your table setting.

Each piece is hand-painted by brush, using Japanese coloring paint which is one of the remarkable features of Kutani ware, as you can see the painted part is slightly thickened.

The size is great as a serving plate for salad, appetizers, cakes and breads. It is also perfect to serve breakfast, brunch and lunch individually.

    Chie Sakurai is a Kutani Ware artist working at Soukyu Kiln. She is known for creating a wide range of works, from familiar patterns of plants and animals to patterns incorporating traditional patterns.

    In order to give a soft atmosphere to her works, she takes the time and effort to create her pieces from underglaze painting to overglaze painting, which is rare among Kutani Ware artists. Her works are both unique and accessible for everyday use, and are sure to touch the hearts of all who see it.

    About kutani ware

    Kutani ware is a type of pottery produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture and it has a history of over 350 years.
    It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue that are applied to the bold and daring lines.
    Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
    In the early 1700s, the Kutani kilns were closed, but about 80 years later they were opened and Kutani ware was revived.
    The beauty of the various styles and methods of painting is known as "Japan Kutani" and is highly regarded around the world.
