Issou Walking Cat Ebony Wakasa Lacquer Chopsticks 23 cm / 9 in
These beautiful Wakasa lacquer chopsticks are made of ebony and have a charming design of a cat and its footprints.
Employing the technique of kaizogan, the ebony is decorated with abalone shells. The nacreous layer of the abalone shell changes its sheen depending on the angle of the light, adding a unique expression to the handle of the chopsticks.
Ebony is known for its fine, hard surface and increasing luster with polishing. It has long been used for chopsticks but now has become a rare material that is difficult to obtain.
Recommended for everyday use, this pair is also perfect for special occasions with guests. It makes a unique gift for cat lovers as well.
These chopsticks are made by Ishida, which has been making Wakasa lacquerware for more than eighty years. Wakasa lacquerware is a traditional craft of Obama, Fukui Prefecture that has been manufactured since the early Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE).
