Reversible Rectangle Hegi-me Yamanaka Lacquerware Placemat
This rectangle-shaped, reversible Yamanaka lacquer placemat is just the right size for placing a meal for one person. The surface has linear unevenness of the recreated pattern of the wood grain, called "Hegi-me," which is made by planing.
There are two sides, black and red, and the black side can be used for chic table settings, while the red side can be used for celebratory settings.
It has a traditional atmosphere but a simple design that goes well with modern dining tables and rooms.

Yamanaka lacquerware is produced in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and has a history of about 400 years.
The traditional techniques of Yamanaka lacquerware were highly evaluated and became known throughout Japan, despite a period of temporary interruption.
It is characterized by the use of wood grain patterns to express a natural texture, and is made with great attention to detail.
It was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975.
