Kousai Kiln Flower Hasami Square Bowl

JPY ¥7,900

This is an easy-to-use sized bowl of Haasmi Ware. The interior rim and bottom are painted with flowers and traditional patterns, creating a unique combination of a rustic clay texture and a gorgeous painted atmosphere.

The deep shape also makes it suitable for salada or soupy dish such as "Nimono(steamed dish)".

It is created by the potter's wheel and the rough texture of the clay feel comfortable in the hand. The combination of the "Yakishime" and the glazed part, which changes its expression depending on the firing process, creates a unique charm.

Kousai Kiln is owned by Hirohiko Umeno, a potter engaged in stoneware making in Hasami-cho, Nagasaki Prefecture. He trained at a Kiyomizu Ware kiln in Kyoto City and opened his own kiln in Mt. Nakao in 1991. He produces unique stoneware based on handmade and hand-painted techniques.

His works are stoneware using the "Yakishime" technique, firing unglazed pottery fired at a high temperature, in combination with Kiyomizu Ware's painting. The unique motifs of the paintings, such as depictions of plants like flowers and grapes, and animals like cats and rabbits, make it fun to choose from a wide variety of pieces.

Nice Bowl

Ordered this square shaped bowl from Musubi Kiln. The outside is a textured earthed brown color and the interior is decorated with bright colored flowers. The bowl is heavier in weigh than I expected but, will fill an open spot in my pantry. I see this bowl being filled with hard candies or used for serving sauces at the dinner table.
