White Chrysanthemum Hasami Sauce Plate

This chrysanthemum-shaped Japanese sauce plate features a matte white glaze. On top of that, the glaze is again applied as if it were sprinkled with flakes of snow.

It is made by Hasami ware, which is widely known as a light, durable and easy-to-use tableware among Japanese tableware, and is an indispensable stoneware in both restaurants and homes.

Chrysanthemum is a shape often used in Japanese tableware. Chrysanthemums have meanings such as "love" and "true strength" and are known as an auspicious motif.

Perfect size as a sauce plate. It is also versatile to serve cheese, nuts, condiments, and other small food. Or you may put a small portion of food or relishes in, place it on a larger plate or into a bento box for more stylish and sophisticated food presentation.

Hasami ware is a type of pottery produced in the vicinity of Hasami-cho, located in the north central part of Nagasaki Prefecture, with a history of over 400 years. One of the characteristics of Hasami ware is that there is no fixed technique, so it is possible to make pottery that fits the times. For this reason, Hasami ware comes in a variety of shapes, both large and small, and has a rich variety of designs. Because of the variety of expressions, Hasami ware is loved by people of all ages and genders.

Even Better in Person

There was even more detail in person. With the photos, I didn't notice the little spots sprinkled over top of the plate. So seeing this in person was a very pleasant surprise and made me love it even more! Would highly recommend.
