A set of two elegantly crafted pairs of chopsticks created from the beautiful combination of Wakasa lacquerware and chic colors of blue and red with shell inlays.

These chopsticks are made from natural wood with the bottom half coated in authentic Wakasa lacquer. Each piece is carefully crafted with multiple layers of lacquer giving the coating its beautiful luster.

The upper half of the chopsticks are intricately designed with the traditional Japanese motif of a rabbit and full moon crafted using a shell inlay. Decorating lacquer with abalone shells is a technique called "Kai-zogan" (shell inlay), one of the traditional techniques of Wakasa lacquerware. The nacreous layer of the abalone shell changes its expression depending on the angle of the light and you can feel the slight change in texture when holding the chopsticks.

To add to the decorative flair, each pair of chopsticks boast a thin glimmering line along the middle. For the red set, this shimmer is gold and silver for the blue.

Coming in a decorative paulownia box, this set of chopsticks makes an excellent gift for newlyweds or for a special anniversary. Chopsticks are wonderful as a wedding gift as they signify "a couple supporting each other and spending time together."

These chopsticks are made by Ishida which has been producing Wakasa lacquerware for over 80 years. Wakasa lacquerware is a traditional craft of Obama City, Fukui Prefecture that has been passed down through generations and continues to be enjoyed today.
