Plum Flower Kutani Japanese Bowl

JPY ¥46,800

Only 3 pieces in stock!

This elegant flower shaped bowl features hand-painted plum motifs and raised arabesque patterns. Hand-painted by a Kutani ware artist, Ms. Okanemasa Kasui.

The painting stands out beautifully on the white porcelain, as you can see the painted part is slightly thickened by using a brush for painting. A fine pattern is drawn on the foot, making it a beautiful bowl from any angle.

Both plum blossoms and arabesque are an auspicious motif, symbolizing “longevity” and "Prosperity".

Perfect as a serving bowl for salads, Nimono(simmered food), dessert, and fruits.

It is great for an everyday use as well as a gift for someone who loves Japanese arts and crafts.

    Message from Okanemasa Kasui

Kutani ware is a fascinating ceramics, characterized by black lines and five colors of red, green, purple, yellow and dark blue on a gray-white ground. Attracted by the beauty of overglaze enamels, we have been learning the technique of overglazing and have been going through a daily process of trial and error. We will continue to make the most of the deep flavor of Kutani-ware, cherish our traditions, and aim for a new kind of Kutani ware I will continue to study while I am working. When the gentleness of the simple flowers decorate the vessels, I will put my heart and soul into my work so that you can enjoy a moment of peace of mind. I am drawing with all my heart.

    About kutani ware

Kutani ware is a type of pottery produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture and it has a history of over 350 years.
It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue that are applied to the bold and daring lines.
Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
In the early 1700s, the Kutani kilns were closed, but about 80 years later they were opened and Kutani ware was revived.
The beauty of the various styles and methods of painting is known as "Japan Kutani" and is highly regarded around the world.
