Mt. Fuji, the pride of Japan, is the motif of this unique Sakazuki flat sake cup.

On days of clear skies, the unique and rare spectacle of a reversed Mt. Fuji, known as "Sakasa Fuji" in Japanese, can be marveled on lakes and rice paddies near its base and is considered a symbol of good fortune due to its rarity. This rare picturesque sight is wonderfully recreated on the surface of sake in this beautiful flat sake cup.

Made of tin, this sake cup is elegantly robust with its shiny metallic surface. Having properties of softening the flavor of the sake, tin is an ideal material for a sake cup. It weighs nicely and fits well in one's hand. The footed design makes it easy to hold and adds height to the peak of Mt. Fuji.

Enjoy finding the reflection of Mt. Fuji on the glimmering surface of sake. A silver reflection of a reversed Mt. Fuji can be seen when the sake cup is held with Mt. Fuji facing forward at eye-level before taking a sip. An artistic silhouette of Mt. Fuji can be adored from a distance by setting the sake cup filled with water on a table.

Each piece is handmade using a technique called "sand casting," where a metallic base is made by pouring hot metal into a hardened sand mold. This traditional technique has been carried down in Takaoka City, the heartland of metalwork, for over 400 years. Creating intricate shapes and designs with this technique necessitates tremendous skill that can only be amassed through many years of experience.

This sake cup is packaged in a sturdy paper box stamped with the Gingado logo. Enjoy the elegant presence of Mt. Fuji at home when drinking sake or send it as a gift to someone who holds an admiration for Japan's iconic symbol.

Takaoka Copperware is the generic name for metal crafts made in Takaoka City using materials such as aluminum alloys, tin, iron, gold, silver, in addition to copper. This craft originated in the 17th century, when metal craft workers were invited to develop a new industry. Initially producing essential goods such as pots and pans, over time it evolved into making elaborate pieces such as Buddhist bells, large lanterns and vases by the late Edo period. In 1975, Takaoka Copperware was designated as a national traditional craft.
