Hirado Sakura Mikawachi Ware Sakazuki Flat Sake Cup

JPY ¥14,400

Only 1 piece in stock!

The Sakazuki Sake cup looks as if Sakura flowers are floating on the water when you pour sake into it.

The Hirado's flower decoration technique is one of the techniques to form porcelain flowers by hand. Using a bamboo tool with a pointed tip, the petals are cut out one by one from a lump of porcelain clay.

The work is by Mr. Ichiro Nakazato, an intangible cultural property holder of Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.

It is made of Amakusa ceramic stone from Kumamoto, which is characterized by its translucent white color and pearlescent texture.

The thin porcelain rim is very smooth to the mouth and brings out the delicate flavor of sake. Together with the Sakura flower decoration, you can savor an elegant fine drinking experience.

Pair this with Tokkuri Sake carafe from the same series.

Hirado Kohsyo Danemon Kiln, as a pioneer of Mikawachi ware, has been carrying on the technique for 400 years and is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad for its outstanding technique and artistic sensibility in design.

In 1928, the company was granted as purveyors to the Imperial Household Agency. Also, its piece has also been presented as a gift to His Majesty the King of the Netherlands on several ceremonial occasions.

ABOUT MIKAWACHI WARE

Mikawachi Ware, also known as Hirado Ware, is a pottery made in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. Known for its translucent white porcelain, it was highly popular in Europe during the trend toward Japanese crafts in the West in the 20th century. Mikawachi Ware is remarkable for its delicate modeling techniques that push the limits of porcelain, such as openwork and relief carving, and for its beautiful painting that looks like a single piece of art.
