THE JOY OF EMBRACING JAPANESE FOOD CULTURE

We have an expression in Japan, "a bowl of soup and a plate of food," which means a meal consisting of a bowl of miso soup and a plate of a side dish along with a bowl of rice. This concept was originally implied a simple meal, but it is now drawing attention as food combination that helps maintain proper nutritional balance while keeping us from overeating. The French agronomist Joseph Kratzmann described it as an ideal diet from a nutritional point of view.

Meanwhile, Japan has another concept for Honzen and Kaiseki cuisine: "a bowl of soup and three plates of food," which consists of plates and/or bowls such as raw food like sashimi, simmered dish, and grilled food. The dishware and overall color play an important role as an artistic presentation.

While enjoying food from different cultures, adding such purely Japanese traditions into your life can enhance the mealtime experience. The same is true for matcha bowls and sake sets as more and more people around world enjoy matcha and sake. We hope you find such joy through your favorite pieces of tableware.
