Description

The name TOHKA means "transparent," referring to how the wood grain is beautifully enhanced in each piece. This elegant cup is crafted using a delicate technique that highlights its grain and shape.

The cup is shaped like Mount Fuji, a symbol of good fortune.

The smooth texture of wood feels soft and relaxing against your lips, enhancing the rich yet delicate flavors of sake.

Crafted from Betula grossa, a hardwood known for its high-class quality and excellent workability due to its elasticity, this cup is both luxurious and durable.

All GATOMIKIO products are crafted using the traditional woodturning technique called kijibiki, in which logs are carefully carved into products while rotating on a lathe.

Ochoko Sake Cups

We have curated a selection of exquisite ochoko sake cups from across Japan, designed to enrich your experience of savoring your favorite sake.

Ochoko is a relatively small sake cup, typically holding more liquid than a sakazuki, with a capacity of 2-3 sips. Originally, ochoko was used as a kobachi "small bowl," but it is said to have transitioned into a sake cup during parties in the mid-Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE).

Traditionally, people would start drinking with sakazuki cups and then switch to ochoko as the event unfolded. There is no strict definition for the shape or material of an ochoko, resulting in a wide range of designs.
