Only 2 pieces in stock!

This Kutani Ware Matcha bowl Chawan by Sousei Kiln is beautiful with its boldly painted dogwood motif and the elegant sheen of the red glaze.

The slightly raised painting is characteristic of Kutani Ware pieces, using a paint called "Wa-enogu(Japanese paints)".

This Matcha bowl uses a technique called "Kannyu" (penetration), which intentionally creates a crack-like pattern that can be seen under the glaze as you can see it inside of the bowl.

The smooth and thin rim makes it easy to drink matcha. It is also recommended to drink coffee or tea.

With the traditional feel, this Japanese Matcha bowl will be your long-time favorite. Delivered in an original wooden box which makes it a perfect gift for your loved ones.

Sousei Kiln is the kiln of Jyusei Yamada, a qualified Kutani Ware first-class certified craftsman.
His work has been selected for numerous exhibitions, and he aims to create "beloved Kutani Ware" that fits the times while preserving the traditions of Kutani Ware.

About kutani ware

Kutani ware is a type of pottery produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture and it has a history of over 350 years.
It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue that are applied to the bold and daring lines.
Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
In the early 1700s, the Kutani kilns were closed, but about 80 years later they were opened and Kutani ware was revived.
The beauty of the various styles and methods of painting is known as "Japan Kutani" and is highly regarded around the world.
