ABOUT CHOEMON KILN

KEIGO KAMIDE / The 6th generation of Kutani Choemon Kiln

Keigo Kamide was born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1981 and graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 with a major in oil painting.

Since the same year, he has been the successor of the Choemon Kiln, and has been involved in many projects, artworks, and designing together with the artisans.

In 2013, he established a limited liability company, Kamide Shigei, and began to engage in full-scale management of the kiln.

He aims to create universal and fresh expressions based on the history of Kiln, which began in the Orient, and to pass on Kutani ware to the present with flexible ideas that are not limited by tradition or boundaries.

Works

One of his representative works is “FUEFUKI".

It is very popular in Japan because of its traditional patterns arranged in a unique way.

He has collaborated with a Spanish designer in the past, and has also produced works using Kiln as a material on his own, actively holding solo exhibitions. He continues to create with the motto, “To carry on a tradition means to be creative and inventive one generation at a time.”

About kutani ware

Kutani ware is a type of pottery produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture and it has a history of over 350 years.
It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue that are applied to the bold and daring lines.
Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
In the early 1700s, the Kutani kilns were closed, but about 80 years later they were opened and Kutani ware was revived.
The beauty of the various styles and methods of painting is known as "Japan Kutani" and is highly regarded around the world.

I recommend this product

this time with the bass!

I have already purchased a few cups in the same series - one with the piano and the skateboard - and I loved them so much that I got the man with the bass this time, as a present :) I love the elegance - the form, the thickness (not too thin, but not thick) the colours and their combination. And the touch of humour - the man with this hair-do and kimono on, playing the bass, is a hit!
