Yatsuyanagi Shell Inlay Original Akita Cherry Bark Work Tea Canister
This tea canister, created by Yatsuyanagi, is made of cherry bark work from Akita Prefecture and decorated with a cherry blossom motif using shell inlays. The glossy brown cherry bark has a moist texture and a beautiful shine. The inside is also made of cherry bark, a traditional and advanced technique.
The bark of the wild cherry tree has moisture-regulating and antibacterial properties that help keep the tea leaves fresh and tasty.
The cherry trees used for Akita cherry bark work are mainly wild cherry trees from the Tohoku region, which grow in a harsh climate and are said to be beautiful and durable.
The cherry bark is carefully peeled off from the trunk and left to dry in the shade for a year or two to remove the moisture. Initially I wondered if the price was too high, but when I received it, I could see the perfection in design and craftsmanship and could see its true worth. I bought two as gifts for my daughters and I can’t wait to give them! Everything was very well-packaged and arrived very quickly. I also appreciate the furoshiki wrapping, but my only one complaint is that I bought two each of three different items (total of 6), but everything was wrapped together in one large bundle. I wish they were wrapped separately since the items are for two people.
