Myousen Toubou Auspicious Bird Chrysanthemum Kutani Bowl 6.1 in
This bowl features exquisite sometsuke designs hand-painted by master craftsman Yamamoto Choza. At the bottom of the bowl lies a botanical and bird motif highlighted with circular patterns in fine lines of blue. The intricacies of each design invite a closer look.
The porcelain base is formed using the katauchi technique, where a smooth layer of clay is placed over a mold and carefully shaped by hand with precise force to replicate various forms such as this chrysanthemum-shaped bowl. The final product attains a thin and uniform appearance.
Ideally sized to plate a single serving of sashimi or a stewed dish, the depth of the bowl and the embellishments on the rim enhance the presentation.
Yamamoto Choza has refined the exquisite art of sometsuke. He skillfully uses brushes of varying thicknesses to create different shades of blue, enhancing the three-dimensional effect of his artistry through a masterful equilibrium of white space within intricately woven blue lines.
Myousen Toubou has received widespread acclaim for its exceptional craftsmanship and has been commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency to produce tableware and other items since 1990.
