Nishiki Banreki Mino Ware Bowl L
This large donburi bowl features a stunning flower garden design nestled between a lattice-like pattern. The focus on red and green against a pure white base, appears even more vibrant with the addition of blue accents and subtle gold details.
The painted design is rendered in a combination of styles inspired by nishiki-e and banreki. Nishiki-e “brocade picture” refers to a multi-colored woodblock print that revolutionized ukiyo-e during the Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE), which had been printed in black and white until then. Banreki is Chinese Ming Dynasty porcelain famous for its five colors. Together they create a unique and striking fusion of styles.
Mino ware boasts a remarkable variety of styles and is celebrated for its rich traditional heritage, while also excelling in the production of contemporary pottery. It is widely distributed in Japan, yet of very high quality, which makes it a great choice for daily use.

It’s so beautiful! You can’t tell from the pictures but this bowl has quite a bit of texture/grooves rather than a smooth finish, giving it a substantial feel and more weight than I expected. I can’t wait to eat rice bowls, noodle soups, and even salads in this amazing bowl.
