Art Styles of the Past Mokubei Kutani Decorative Plate
This plate is one of the six in the "Art Styles of the Past" series. It showcases the unique design of Kutani ware in the Mokubei style.
The Mokubei style is one of the traditional patterns representing Kutani ware, created under the guidance of Aoki Mokubei, a potter from Kyoto. It aimed to revive Kutani ware approximately 100 years after production had ceased. The entire surface is painted red, depicting people and other objects in Kutani Gosai–the five colors of Kutani ware (green, yellow, purple, navy, and red).
In the central circular frame, Tang children with Chinese-style hairstyles and clothing are depicted playing. This is an iconic design of the Mokubei style. The way the children enjoy their lives in a carefree manner has an appealing charm that gives peace of mind to those who see it. The floral pattern on the rim also adds calmness and sophistication.
The plate comes with a stand, allowing it to be displayed on a shelf or table. It is also suitable for use at special occasions.

It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of green, yellow, red, purple, and navy blue that are applied to the bold and daring lines.
Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
In the early 1700s, the Kutani kilns were closed, but about 80 years later they were opened and Kutani ware was revived.
The beauty of the various styles and methods of painting is known as "Japan Kutani" and is highly regarded around the world.
