Utilizing only the best in natural materials, this classic design makes for an exceptional addition to any home. A skilled craftsperson at Fukami Sangyo meticulously weaves each piece by hand.

Shuro is a type of palm tree native to areas such as Japan and China in Asia. Its fibers derived from the bark has been used for an array of practical purposes for centuries due to its strong and durable qualities. Shuro palm fibers have been employed in the production of cordage, brushes and mats but also have been used for kitchen items such as trivets and brushes due to their high tolerance of heat, sturdiness and minimal discoloration, allowing for long-term use.

With its rustic and warm design, this trivet perfectly matches with Nambu ironware kettles and Donabe Japanese clay pots. Additionally, it can also be used for outdoor activities such as barbecues and camping.

This trivet comes in three sizes. This small size trivet has a diameter of 18cm(7.1in) and an inner diameter of 8.5cm(3.3in) and can comfortably hold small cast iron teapots and small cast iron skillets.

With a loop woven on the side, the trivet can be hung for easy storage and can also be used as a decorative item on a wall.

ABOUT Shuro Palm Craft

Eco-friendly crafts with a tropical flair

Products made from the palm-like plant known as "Shuro" are a traditional craft of Kainan City in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. This plant, which gives a tropical ambiance, was once naturally grown and cultivated in the mountainous regions formerly known as Nogamidani. The dark brown fibers that envelop the trunk of this plant are robust, resistant to decay, and possess notable elasticity and durability. These characteristics have led to the creation of various daily goods, including ropes, nets, sheaves, brushes, trivets and more.
