Enjoy the refined natural blue-green luster of celadon with this stylish oval plate from Kosen Kiln.

With its translucent glaze on the blue-jade hue of celadon, a peaceful atmosphere emanates from the plate's surface, like a calm glistening pond. An air of tranquility is furthered by the horizontal lines that grace this plate.

Also adorning the surface of the plate are Medaka rice fishes which are depicted with such realism that they look as though they are actually suspended in water. Each fish is hand painted using brushes of differing thickness to draw the detailed designs. Three small dots give movement to the fish and add a delicate touch to the design. One can almost feel the fish gracefully swimming in a pond with their slightly curved tails.

This stunning oval plate is ideal for any entree, such as grilled fish or meat. Desserts can also be served beautifully on the jade-colored celadon. This plate has been crafted in an accomodating size that enables it to be used for various occasions. The Medaka Rice Fish series also includes other items that can help create a unified theme on your table top. This item is packaged in a durable paper box labeled with the name of the kiln on Washi paper and makes for an excellent present.

Nabeshima Kosen Kiln specializes in products that use three techniques that are characteristic of Nabeshima ware: Iro-Nabeshima, Sometsuke, and celadon. Created by years of research, Kosen Kiln developed a crystal clear, jade-colored celadon glaze of Nabeshima celadon. The company's founder, Tameo Kawasoe, has long studied celadon porcelain with a strong desire to make Nabeshima celadon ware available to as many people as possible.

The current third generation, Takahiko Kawasoe, has a vision of "establishing Nabeshima culture" and began research and development of celadon from a different perspective from that of his grandfather. The kiln is working daily with the hope that the future of Nabeshima ware will be enriched 100 years from now.

Imari Nabeshima Ware

Nabeshima ware is a porcelain ware produced by the Nabeshima domain kiln, which was established in 1628 by 31 selected potters in the Arita and Imari areas (Saga Prefecture) as a project directly managed by the Saga Nabeshima domain in the early Edo period.

For about 250 years until the abolition of the domain in 1871, the Nabeshima ware, which could only be used by shoguns and feudal lords, continued to produce porcelain masterpieces such as "Iro-Nabeshima (colored Nabeshima)", "Sometsuke" and celadon porcelain, and others as masterpieces of the finest quality. Later, the kilns became private kilns, and new potters joined to create the present Imari Nabeshima ware.
