Kiyohide Glass Blue Amber Owl Edo Kiriko Rocks Glass

JPY ¥153,000

A symphony of color and tradition, this glass features a harmonious blend of blue and orange hues. The kikutsunagi motif, with its fine lines and detailed cuts, emits a delicate light that showcases the exceptional beauty and popularity of Edo Kiriko designs. Each meticulously cut line glimmers, inviting you to appreciate the artistry and brilliance that have been carefully crafted into the glass.

Complementing the kikutsunagi is the hakkaku kagome design, an octagonal pattern inspired by the lattice work of baskets. This motif not only reflects light beautifully in all directions but also demands skilled craftsmanship due to the fine nature of its lines. Historically valued for its protective qualities and its harmonious compatibility with glass, the design adds depth and an air of luxury to the piece.

Enhancing the rich tapestry of these designs is the depiction of an owl. The curves and elegance of its feathers blend seamlessly with the patterns of the kikutsunagi and hakkaku kagome, creating a masterpiece that celebrates the beauty of nature and tradition.

The base of the glass is adorned with the Japanese sasa "bamboo grass" leaf motif, representing another layer of traditional Edo Kiriko patterns. This design, with its various cuts and thicknesses, evokes a rustic yet timeless beauty, enhancing the Japanese aesthetic of the piece.

Holding up to 150 ml or 5.3 oz of your favorite drink, it’s the right size for whatever is on the menu, and the three-dimensional cuts in dark amber at the bottom instantly elevate the visual of the cocktail, mocktail, or any other liquid inside. It arrives tucked with a beautiful box made of paulownia wood, light and made to protect the cup when not in use. It also makes a beautiful gift.

This glass is made with a craft technique called Edo Kiriko, which involves the precise cutting of crystal against a cutting wheel, to create geometric shapes and lines that catch the light from every angle.

Each Edo Kiriko glass is made by the hands of artisan Kiyohide in his workshop called Kirameki, which means “The Refined Light.” Kiyohide has honed his craft over decades of dedication, earning him the title of Edo Kiriko Craftsperson, an honor reserved only for those who have proved their craftsmanship of the technique.
