These chopsticks are meticulously created by embedding precisely cut pieces of shells, delicate quail eggshells and specks of gold leaf. The slightly larger cuts of shell inlays emanate a beautiful glow and the added sparkles of eggshells and gold leaf splendidly showcase diverse colors and patterns. 

Both pairs are very light in weight and with their square-shaped design allow for a comfortable hold. 

Presented in a paulownia box, the lid features elegant Japanese calligraphy displaying the characters "Wakasa Lacquerware Chopsticks" along with the artisan's name. Whether chosen as a splendid self-gift or as an exquisite present for a special occasion, these chopsticks are certain to bring joy.

ABOUT WAKASA LACQUER CHOPSTICKS

Wakasa lacquer chopsticks are traditional lacquered chopsticks from Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, with a history of about 400 years. It currently accounts for more than 80% of the national share of domestically produced lacquered chopsticks. Wakasa lacquer chopsticks was designated as a "traditional craft" on February 6, 1978 in recognition of its advanced techniques. It is characterized by their unique three-dimensional patterns created by applying layers of colored lacquer made of shells and eggshells. It was sometimes called "jewel lacquering" because of the noble shine of the patterns that represented the ocean floor.

Today, you can find a wide variety of Wakasa lacquer chopsticks, some handmade using traditional methods, some made using transfer sheets, and some made using dishwasher-safe paints. Enjoy choosing the chopsticks that best suit your lifestyle.
