The enchanting animals from the famous Chojugiga Scroll, including frogs, monkeys, and rabbits, come alive on these chopstick rests from Tosen Kiln. Each animal is depicted with a festive Christmas touch: stars shimmering around them, hats adorning their heads, and the mischievous one even carries a bag of presents. These whimsical scenes wonderfully capture the festive spirit while celebrating traditional Japanese artistry.

Tosen Kiln, a long-standing establishment since 1868 in Kyoto, meticulously crafts these rests using its signature blend of soil and glaze, a legacy passed down from the celebrated potter Nonomura Ninsei. He's credited with pioneering the art of Kyo ware in the 17th century.

The delicate hand-painted details on each chopstick rest demonstrate the depth of expertise and Japanese-style painting knowledge of Tosen Kiln's craftspersons. Their precision shines especially when painting on the highly absorbent unglazed base, a technique demanding immense skill. Following the intricate painting, a nami-yu glaze envelops each piece, bestowing a lustrous sheen over the captivating designs.

Elevate your dining experience with these chopstick rests that masterfully merge traditional Japanese aesthetics with the joviality of the holiday season. Pair them with other items from Tosen Kiln's festive range or let them stand alone as decorative pieces, adding splashes of joy and Japanese craftsmanship to your space.

Presented in a beautifully crafted paulownia box adorned with a charming Christmas-themed painting, this set of five pieces is an ideal gift. The lid's underside elegantly displays the Japanese characters for "chopstick rest" in the center, with Tosen Kiln's esteemed name on the left. This set promises to make any festive occasion even more delightful and unforgettable.

"Emblematic Pottery Flourishes in the Old Capital of Japan"

Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware is one of Kyoto's representative crafts. Its a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, named Kyo-yaki or Kiyomizu-yaki in Japanese.

There is no specific style, and all pottery techniques from various regions of Japan are used. Another characteristic of Kyo ware is that all processes, such as pottery wheel turning and painting, are done by hand. With a history that has developed along with traditional culture, Kyo ware is characterized by delicate painting and excellent modeling skills, resulting in ceramics of great elegance and highly pictorial qualities. Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware were designated as traditional crafts by the Japanese government in 1977 and are very popular for its artistic quality.
