The designs are hand painted by an artisan at Tanaka Toubou one by one which is a characteristic of Kyo ware. The petals of the cosmos flowers are elegantly drawn in a light purple and a vivid white outlined in exquisite gold paint.  

At the foot of "Fushimi Inari Taisha" Shrine, Tanaka Toubou has been open for 35 years. The artisans at Tanaka Toubou, Nobuo, and Michiko Tanaka specialize in creating unique tea ceremony utensils and daily-use tableware.

Nobuo principally creates glazed ware with a black tenmoku glaze that includes at least five percent iron. Meanwhile, Michiko's works capture the essence of each season along with gentle depictions of plants and animals, which connect emotionally to those who admire them.
