This red Raku (Aka Raku) matcha bowl reflects the warmth and earthy presence long valued in the Japanese tea ceremony.
Hand-shaped by a master artisan in keeping with Raku tradition, this bowl is formed from iron-rich clay and crafted using a traditional clay slip technique, using yellow ocher to achieve its distinct red color. Fired at around 800°C (1472°F) and finished with a clear glaze, the bowl develops its unique character through the kiln. During firing and cooling, natural shifts in heat and atmosphere create a surface where reds, browns, greys, and darker tones emerge organically. Each bowl develops its character through the kiln, resulting in variations that cannot be planned or repeated.
Red Raku is appreciated for its warmth and grounded presence. In the practice of chanoyu, the Japanese tea ceremony, red matcha bowls offer a sense of ease and physical closeness to the tea. The softly fired clay feels gentle in the hands, providing a balanced weight and a warmth that supports an attentive moment.
Presented in a wooden box adorned with calligraphy, this matcha bowl is beautifully suited for those who value the practice of making and drinking matcha, as well as for collectors who appreciate Raku ware for its expressive surfaces and individuality.

Fabricant / Marque
Founded around 1830 in Gion, Kyoto, Raku Studio Waraku has carried forward the spirit of Raku ware through nearly two centuries of quiet dedication. The studio specializes in tea ceremony essentials like matcha bowls as well as refined kaiseki tableware.
At the heart of Waraku’s philosophy is the belief in “one and only.” No two of their matcha bowls are ever the same. Each piece is formed with a commitment to individuality as not mere variation, but the essence itself. This approach gives rise to the deep presence and character inherent in each of Waraku’s pieces.
