Sakura (cherry blossom) is one of Japan's most beloved motifs. Anciently linked to the deity of the rice fields and the start of the agricultural year, it symbolizes a good harvest and new beginnings, making it fitting for celebrations of fresh starts.
When sakura are in full bloom, familiar paths and landscapes transform into a different world. The blossoms appear on tableware, textiles, and lacquerware as decorative motifs, often rendered in pink petals against contrasting backgrounds.
