Matcha 抹茶

抹 grind/powder · 茶 tea

Matcha is a powder made from tea leaves, used in Japanese tea ceremonies and culinary applications. It is whisked in a matcha bowl (chawan) and is characterized by its fresh flavor, verdant hue, and gentle bitterness, often balanced by the sweetness of traditional treats.

Matcha is whisked in a bowl using a chasen (bamboo whisk), which is stored in a whisk holder to keep its bristles aligned. The powder is prepared and consumed in tea ceremonies that engage all senses, and it is also incorporated into modern culinary dishes and sweets.
