Katabuki 型吹き

型 mold · 吹き blowing

Katabuki is a mold-blowing technique used in Japanese glassmaking. Molten glass is gathered on the tip of a blowpipe, layered with colored glass, then set into a mold and inflated with breath to achieve its final form.

While the form is gently shaped, the glass is set into a mold and inflated with breath. The layering of colored glass creates softly blended shades and subtle depth when touched by natural light.
