Description

This work pairs the golden glow of ginkgo leaves with the serene presence of a cat, bringing a restrained warmth to any interior. A single cat walks calmly through a carpet of fallen ginkgo, scattered and layered across the ground. Rendered in soft, pale yellows, the leaves fill the composition and create a serene atmosphere that gently evokes the deepening of late autumn.

The contrast between the leaf-covered foreground and the generous open space is especially striking. Bathed in the mellow light of the season, the entire scene seems to hold a faint, luminous sheen—almost as if the surface were softly gilded—giving the work a settled, comforting tone.

With a refined command of tonal variation, the artist depicts the ginkgo leaves spreading from distance to near, building depth through careful layering. The cat, meanwhile, is portrayed with realistic precision: its expression and small gestures are observed with care, adding an understated charm that makes the overall composition feel both intimate and inviting.

The artist, Nishimura Kingyo, graduated in 1987 from Kyoto City University of Arts, where he specialized in nihonga (traditional Japanese painting). Based in Kyoto, he has presented work in a range of solo and group exhibitions.

Rouleaux suspendus Kakejiku
