Odate magewappa Le cintrage du bois est une technique japonaise pratiquée à Odate, dans la préfecture d'Akita, depuis 1 300 ans. À la fin du XVIIe siècle, il s'est développé comme activité secondaire pour les samouraïs de la classe inférieure du château d'Odate. En 1980, le magewappa d'Odate a été officiellement reconnu comme artisanat traditionnel japonais, le seul à recevoir cette distinction parmi tous les magewappa du Japon.
