This oryoki bowl set is inspired by traditional nested bowls that trace their roots to Zen Buddhist dining practice, where meals are received in measured portions with care and mindfulness. Reinterpreted for contemporary life, the silhouette reflects a considered and balanced approach to everyday dining.
Carved from solid keyaki (Japanese zelkova), each piece is hollowed from a single block of wood and finished in the Yamanaka lacquerware tradition using suri-urushi. A final urethane coating creates a smooth matte surface, giving the bowls a refined, understated appearance while preserving the character of the material beneath.
The gentle yellow tone, a MUSUBI KILN original color, recalls the softness of quiet sunlight. It brings a calm brightness to the table, enhancing the colors of the dishes served within while subtly illuminating the surrounding setting. The underside of the largest bowl is marked with the MUSUBI logo.
When held in the hands, the bowls reveal the soft tactility unique to lacquered wood. Each form is carefully weighted for stability, nesting seamlessly into the next to create a compact and harmonious set.
All six pieces may be used together or selected individually according to your needs. The matte finish allows the set to pair effortlessly with other contemporary tableware while still offering the distinctive touch and feel of lacquerware.
