This set includes a matcha bowl chawan, a natsume (matcha container), a chashaku (tea scoop), a round plate, a chasen matcha whisk, a matcha whisk holder, a small furoshiki cloth, and a decorative paulownia wood box. The lid of the box doubles as a tray, marked with the positions of each tea ceremony item. In natural wood with traditional Japanese pine-bamboo-plum designs, the box is beautiful even when not in use.
The chawan is made of silky smooth Japanese zelkova wood. Its rich red lacquer provides a lovely pop of color while still bringing out the wood’s gorgeous natural grain. Pleasing to the touch, with gentle curves designed to cradle the fingers, this is a tea bowl you’ll want to reach for again and again.
