Sazameku Cascade Guinomi Sake Cup
This hand-shaped guinomi sake cup continues the sculptural language of the Sazameku series while introducing a more dynamic expression of flow. Rooted in traditional Kutani glazing techniques, it brings a contemporary sensibility to its silhouette and finish.
Deep green and white layers move boldly across the vessel, creating ripples that feel expansive and alive. During firing, the material gathers and descends in pronounced yudare, forming a cascade-like rhythm around the body. The result remains fluid yet controlled—a record of gravity, heat, and matter in quiet dialogue.
The base is finished in a subdued, smoke-toned silver. This metallic footing contrasts with the luminous, glass-like green and white above, creating a subtle tension between grounded weight and gentle motion.
As with all works by Yamaura Saori, the glaze halts just before fully enveloping the foot—a moment where intention meets chance. Nuanced variations in pattern ensure that each piece is singular.
When filled, the interior shifts with light and liquid, enriching its sense of dimensionality. In the hand, the cup’s textured contours engage the fingertips. Retaining the presence of a sculptural object, this sake cup is equally suited for contemplative display or moments of quiet hospitality.
