Sukashibori 透彫

Sukashibori is a decorative style in Japanese ceramics in which sections of clay are carefully cut away to create openings within the vessel. This openwork carving method has appeared in Japanese ceramics since ancient times.

The potter cuts away sections of clay to form openings in the vessel wall, creating a carved structure with open spaces.
