Mentori 面取り

面 surface, face · 取り taking, cutting

Mentori is a ceramic technique created by shaving away portions of a vessel to form faceted planes across the surface. Rounded contours are cut so that they become flat sections, with straight lines and angled edges reshaping the silhouette.

The potter cuts into the clay body, removing material to create flat faceted surfaces where curves once existed. Angular planes replace rounded forms, altering both the surface and the overall shape of the piece.
