This round tray of zelkova by Yamanaka Lacquerware is made by hollowing out a single piece of wood without any joints. It is thick and solid, and will become an eye-catching item just by placing it on the table.

The lacquer is applied in a "Fuki-Urushi" (wiped lacquer) finish, in which the lacquer is applied and wiped repeatedly to make the best use of the grain of the wood.
