Mizuhiki cords are made of washi paper that has been twisted into strands and wrapped with thread. These cords are then tied into decorative knots known as mizuhiki. Their origins trace back over 1,400 years to red and white hemp cords introduced from China, initially used to adorn gifts and official documents. Over time, mizuhiki became indispensable for gift envelopes and presents, evolving into a culture where different knots convey specific meanings. Each knot embodies wishes of forging bonds with others, accumulating happiness, and nurturing lasting joy.

With this kit, you’ll learn how to create foundational mizuhiki knots like the awaji knot and plum blossom knot. From there, you’ll be able to create mizuhiki accessories. The kit includes authentic Iyo mizuhiki cords and all the necessary accessory parts needed to create earrings, bookmarks, a peony charm, a plum blossom ring, a cherry blossom bouquet, and a camellia necklace.
