Magewappa stammt aus der Stadt Odate in der Präfektur Akita und hat eine 1.300-jährige Geschichte. Die Magewappa-Kunsthandwerke von Odate Kougeisha werden mit viel Zeit und Sorgfalt hergestellt und von Handwerkern Stück für Stück mit traditionellen Techniken geformt, die seit Generationen unverändert sind.

Odate Magewappa ist eine japanische Holzbiegetechnik, die seit 1.300 Jahren in Odate, Präfektur Akita, praktiziert wird. Im späten 17. Jahrhundert entwickelte sie sich als Nebenerwerb für die Samurai der unteren Klasse der Innenstadt von Burg Odate. 1980 wurde Odates Magewappa offiziell als traditionelles japanisches Handwerk anerkannt – als einziges Magewappa-Handwerk in Japan.
