Beschreibung

Individually handcrafted, this dinner plate shows the character of the artisan’s hand in each line and curve. Its raised form and softly rounded edges follow a natural rhythm, while rope-impressed textures lend the surface a quiet movement, like ripples of wind-swept sand. Its rich green Oribe glaze pools differently for each piece, making every plate one-of-a-kind.

A base coat of ki-Seto glaze—a pale yellow glaze unique to Mino ware—is first applied, followed by layers of Oribe glaze brushed by hand, creating soft gradations of green, amber, and blue that recall natural landscapes. The mogusa clay, known for its subtle tone and texture, responds uniquely to the fire, allowing tranquil beauty to emerge through both process and form. Areas where the glaze is thinner or strategically hand-wiped reveal the clay beneath for a pleasing textural contrast.

This rectangular plate beautifully frames side dishes and appetizers. The slightly elevated footing gives it a refined presence on the table. Coming in an elegant box, it also makes a lovely gift.

Oribe

Oribe is a distinctive style of Japanese ceramics that emerged in the early 17th century within the Mino tradition. Named after the tea master Furuta Oribe, it is known for its free-spirited shapes and expressive surface patterns that convey movement and individuality. Artisans often shape the clay by hand, subtly adjusting the rim or contour to embody this aesthetic before firing. Asymmetry, bold lines, and a deep copper-green glaze reveal rhythm within its organic silhouette.
