Descripción

This round dinner plate features a soft, pink-white Shino glaze that settles gently across the surface. The underside is strategically wiped by hand to reveal warm orange tones for a tactile, earthy counterpoint. Raised on three small feet and having a flat surface, this dinner plate brings an understated accent to the table.

Each plate is made from mogusa clay and coated with Shino glaze, creating a subtle color variation unique to every piece. The glaze, made from feldspar, naturally contracts during firing to form a fine, crackled, and porous pattern known as kairagi—a “plum-blossom skin” texture cherished for its organic beauty and depth. Over time, the pattern deepens, allowing the plate to age gracefully and develop character with each use.

Its soft color palette complements any table setting, whether used alone or combined with other Shino pieces for a cohesive presentation. Coming in an elegant box, it also makes a lovely gift.

Shino

Shino ware is one of the most distinctive styles in Japanese pottery, first created in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture in the late 16th to early 17th century. Known as the first Japanese ceramics to feature a white glaze, it embodies the refined beauty of wabi sabi.

Made from Mino’s mogusa clay and coated with a thick feldspar glaze, Shino pottery is admired for its rich white surface and the natural variations formed in the kiln. Subtle pinholes, flowing glaze, and warm reddish tones beneath the surface give each piece its own quiet expression.
