Gently rounded and perfectly sized to rest in the hands, the Shino Blush Matcha Bowl is handcrafted and exudes a quiet warmth. Its softly pink-white glaze and tactile surface invite a calm, grounding moment each time it is used for sipping matcha.
The base reveals the natural earthen hue beneath, a rich, textured clay tone of burnt orange. Unlike other pieces, the foot of the bowl is left unglazed, intentionally exposing the clay as tsuchimise (showing the earth), a cherished feature of Shino ware that highlights the material's natural beauty. This harmony of color and touch reflects the refined simplicity of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and the enduring presence of the artisan’s hand.
Each bowl is made from mogusa clay and coated with Shino glaze, creating a subtle color unique to every piece. The Shino glaze, made from feldspar, naturally contracts during firing, creating a fine, crackled, and porous pattern known as kairagi—a “plum-skin” texture cherished for its organic beauty. Over time, the bowl ages gracefully and develops character with each use.
Every detail is considered with care. When used in a tea setting, its rounded lip and moderate depth allow for a smooth whisking motion and a comfortable hold that retains warmth in the hands. The elegant box makes it a lovely gift option.

Shino
Shino ware is one of the most distinctive styles in Japanese pottery, first created in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture in the late 16th to early 17th century. Known as the first Japanese ceramics to feature a white glaze, it embodies the refined beauty of wabi sabi.
Made from Mino’s mogusa clay and coated with a thick feldspar glaze, Shino pottery is admired for its rich white surface and the natural variations formed in the kiln. Subtle pinholes, flowing glaze, and warm reddish tones beneath the surface give each piece its own quiet expression.
