A First Taste of Matcha at Home

A First Taste of Matcha at Home

De Team MUSUBI

There’s something special about making your first bowl of matcha at home.

You don’t need formal steps, fancy tools, or years of practice—just a few simple pieces, a little curiosity, and a table that feels ready to welcome the season.

This neatly arranged spread features original Hasami ware matcha bowls in bright, springtime colors, a few cheerful sweets, and the essential tea tools to whisk and sip at your own pace. It’s a relaxed way to bring a little chado—the Japanese way of tea—into an ordinary afternoon.

Making a Table to Whisk, Sip, and Share

At a formal tea gathering, you usually enjoy just one sweet before your matcha. But when you're setting the table at home, you have the freedom to make it a little more personal—and a little more fun. You can lay out a few different sweets to try, choose a matcha bowl that fits your mood, and take your time whisking, tasting, and sharing.

This easy, thoughtful spread gives you everything you need: a simple chasen whisk, a natsume tea container filled with sifted matcha tea, a chashaku tea scoop, and a small cast iron pot with hot water.

From colorful jelly wagashi to the fish-shaped soft waka-ayu that hints at early summer, having a few sweets on hand makes the occasion even more enjoyable.

Matcha Bowls in Colors of Spring Sakura

And of course, what would a table for matcha be without a matcha bowl? With so many shapes, colors, and designs out there, choosing one can feel overwhelming at first. That’s why we picked a few simple, meaningful pieces for our tea table—bowls that are easy to use, full of seasonal spirit, and bright enough to light up your table without feeling too formal.

A matcha bowl inspired by cherry blossoms bathed in twilight—the Twilight Blossom expresses the subtle shift from day to night. A gentle pink crowns the rim, softening into rich shades of purple and blue below. The open, easy-to-hold shape makes it a great match for beginners learning to whisk matcha.

If you’re drawn to brighter tones, the Blossom & Gold Matcha Bowl offers a blend of popping yellow with a band of pink.

Or, for a lighter look, the Blossom Mist Matcha Bowl offers a muted pink shade—perfect for pairing with spring sweets and lighter matcha.

It doesn’t take much to make matcha part of your day—just a few simple tools, a table ready for something a little different, and fine, fragrant matcha powder waiting to be whisked into something bright and fresh. With a few easy steps, this refreshing and rich tea becomes a small, welcome part of everyday life.
