This natsume "matcha container" has the painting of the famous combination of pine tree, bamboo, and plum which are considered as auspicious motifs in Japan, bringing good luck and longevity. The red lacquer further adds to the festive atmosphere.
A natsume is a type of container used for holding powdered matcha during tea ceremonies, rather than for long-term storage. When preparing matcha for a natsume, do not pour it directly into the container. Instead, sift the matcha through a tea strainer into a separate vessel first. Matcha tends to form lumps due to static electricity, and brewing with lumpy powder can result in an unpleasant texture. After sifting, use a tea scoop to gently place the powdered matcha into the natsume, shaping it into a smooth, rounded mound.
Just by placing it on a dining table or a cupboard, it becomes an eye-catching decorative item. Also, depending on your ideas, it would be great to put not only matcha powder but also other small items such in it.
To avoid moisture, do not wash in water. We recommend cleaning with a soft cloth or brush.

Lacquerware
Japanese lacquerware, also called shikki in Japanese, is a proud handicraft with a long history dating back to 5,000 BCE, and traditional methods are still followed today. Durable, light, antibacterial, and robust enough to endure for more than one hundred years, Japanese lacquerware is not only beautiful, but also highly functional.
In addition to the fine Japanese lacquerware found in antique and vintage pieces, there is also contemporary Japanese lacquerware suitable for modern life made by artisans who continue to improve their skills and pass on tradition today.
