Glossary

Yoshidaya 吉田屋

Yoshidaya is a revival-period Kutani style from the Yoshidaya kiln, which revived the aode (green) style of Ko-Kutani. It uses four colors—green, yellow, purple, and navy—without red, filling the vessel surface with patterns for a heavy, rich effect.

The yellow glaze serves as the foundation for layered overglaze enamel paintings. The brushwork creates patterns with depth, and the painted motifs appear slightly thickened and glossy with a raised texture.
