The osmanthus tree is also believed to bring good fortune and ward off evil. Even today, it is commonly planted on the grounds of shrines and temples. The fragrance of osmanthus is regarded as sacred, often associated with spiritual purification and aiding in meditation.

The flowers themselves are small, usually white, yellow, or orange, and bloom in clusters, emitting a scent that is both floral and fruity. The fragrance, carried by the breeze, lingers in the air, offering a moment of quiet reflection and peace.

Also serving as a seasonal word in haiku, it evokes the essence of fall. The balloon flower is also mentioned in classic works such as the Manyoshu and The Tale of Genji, highlighting its longstanding cultural significance in Japanese literature.

The balloon flower is named for its unique, balloon-shaped buds that unfurl before bursting open into star-like blossoms. While it does not possess a strong fragrance, its visual appeal is undeniable. In Japan, the balloon flower is often associated with unchanging love and loyalty. The simple elegance of its five-petaled shape, combined with its slender, upright stems, creates a sense of grace and serenity.

The spider lily is a striking and mysterious flower native to China. The flower's name in Japanese, higanbana, literally translates to "flower of the other shore," symbolizing the boundary between the world of the living and the afterlife in Japanese culture.
