Description

This pour-spout mortar, complete with a handle, has a distinctive appearance reminiscent of a teacup. The side of the vessel is decorated with the traditional Japanese tako karakusa pattern of vine-like arabesques, adding a refined presence to the table.

The interior ridges are hard and durable. Their chrysanthemum-like pattern is both beautiful and functional, firmly gripping ingredients for efficient grinding. This distinctive ridge design is crafted using traditional techniques that have been carefully preserved over generations.

The handle provides added stability when using a pestle, making it easier to control pressure and maintain balance during grinding. It also eases serving for effortless pours at the table.

The opening is slightly wide, and the spout allows freshly ground sesame seeds or sauces to be transferred smoothly, streamlining the finishing process.

Mortars & Pestles

The mortar and pestle, essential tools in Japanese cooking, are perfect for grinding even small amounts of ingredients with ease. They are particularly recommended for grinding sesame seeds, as this releases their oils and enhances the flavor. In Japan, ceramic mortars are traditionally paired with wooden pestles. Placing one on the dining table adds an interactive element, letting everyone enjoy grinding ingredients themselves.
