Touan
Founded in 1922, Touan is one of Kyoto's distinguished kilns specializing in Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware. As one of the largest workshops in Kyoto, all stages of production are meticulously carried out by hand. Touan is dedicated to crafting exquisite, seasonally inspired designs, employing underglaze painting, where intricate colors are applied before glazing. This process ensures that each creation retains its delicate hues and is resistant to wear, embodying both beauty and durability.
The Floral Crystalline series showcases the captivating beauty of crystalline glaze, a special technique where natural crystal formations emerge during the cooling process. As the glaze sets, delicate, flower-like patterns appear across the surface, making each piece a one-of-a-kind creation. No two motifs are ever the same, offering endless variations to admire.

The Brushed Colors series brings intricate designs to life through the shitae underglaze painting technique. Colors are carefully applied before glazing, ensuring they remain vivid and resistant to wear. Using Touan’s original pigments, artisans meticulously hand-paint each detail, embedding the motifs beneath a protective glaze for lasting beauty.
