Designed for cookware with a diameter of 11 inches (28 cm) or larger, this sunoko (steamer insert) works not only with traditional donabe (clay pot) but also adapts easily to other heat-safe cookware. Made from Banko ware, it offers excellent heat resistance and can be washed entirely after use, making daily care simple and convenient. Whether used in a donabe or an everyday cooking pot, simply placing the steamer insert inside allows you to steam with ease, significantly expanding the versatility of your cookware.
The ventilation holes, evenly arranged from the center outward, allow steam to circulate gently throughout the pot. This ensures even cooking for vegetables, fish, and meat alike. Because the rack lifts ingredients slightly above the base of the pot, moisture is retained during heating, resulting in tender steamed vegetables and succulent dishes such as steamed chicken.
The raised structure helps prevent scorching and reduces direct contact with the bottom of the pot, minimizing wear on the donabe itself. A central handle is thoughtfully shaped for easy removal, even amid rising steam.
