HOZAN KILN SANGIRI BIZEN WARE SAKE SET

Hozan Kiln Sangiri Bizen Ware Sake Set

JPY ¥24,000

This Bizen Ware sake set has a pattern called "Sangiri". The coarse texture, exquisite colors and patterns produced by the kiln's flames is a remarkable example of Bizen Ware, "the art of clay and fire".

The "San" in Sangiri refers to the wall inside the kiln. The work placed on the side of the wall where ash tends to accumulate is covered with ash from the pine wood, and the part of the work not directly exposed to the fire reacts with the ash, turning it grayish brown or blackish brown. Each firing results in a different pattern, making each piece a unique work of art.

The microscopic pores inside Bizen ware mellow the flavors of sake and make the aroma more fragrant. The effect has been famous for centuries, and there is even a saying that "second-grade sake becomes first-grade sake when sake is kept in a Bizen ware pot.

It comes with 1 sake carafe and 2 sake cups.

Delivered in a wooden box which makes it a perfect gift for your loved ones.

Bizen Ware is a traditional stoneware produced in the Imbe area of Okayama Prefecture. It is one of the oldest ceramics in Japan, and is made using the “Yakishime" technique, in which pieces are fired at high temperatures without glaze to make them durable and water-resistant.

Hozan Kiln is a long-established Bizen Ware kiln located in Imbe, Bizen City. In the Bizen Ware, there were six families that had been under the protection of the shogunate (government) since the 17th century. Hozan Kiln is known as one of them and continues to this day as the legitimate successor of Bizen Ware.

Beautiful Sake Set

Sake set arrived in a wooden box wrapped in cloth with a bow. You learn that Japanese people sometimes wrap gifts for their loved ones in a wrapping cloth--- furoshiki. The set is even more beautiful than the pictures on the website. Each piece is unique. Expensive, but a very good value.
