These Wakasa lacquer chopsticks are a wonderful example of a well-played game of contrast. The glossy red lacquer is paired with pink and purple, while the black is paired with yellow and blue, creating an energetic, contemporary take on a traditional item.
This is further enhanced by the slightly rough texture of the colored areas contrasting with the smooth and glossy lacquer. The non-slip tips make it easy to pick up food.
The brown chopsticks with pink and purple are 21 cm/8.2 in and black chopsticks with blue and yellow are 23 cm/9 in. Please choose the one you prefer according to your hand size.
These chopsticks are made by Ishida, which has been making Wakasa lacquer for over 80 years. Wakasa lacquerware is a traditional craft of Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, which has been around since the early Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE).
