These Wakasa lacquer chopsticks are decorated with a design of heavenly bamboo using a decorative technique called kai-zogan, or “shell inlay.” This mother-of-pearl inlay is created using the nacreous layer of abalone shell, which changes its expression depending on the angle of the light.
They are recommended not only for daily use but also for entertaining guests or as a gift. Available in two colors: blue or red, each in a different size. Please choose the one that best fits your hand size.
These chopsticks are made by Ishida, which has been making Wakasa lacquer for over 80 years. Wakasa lacquerware is a traditional craft of Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, which has been around since the early Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE).
